Moving Forward

The Moving Forward phase takes the form of four sub-processes which will be brought together in the GM2.0’ closing event on 29 and 30 November 2010.

In the second phase of the On Track with Gender trajectory, we intend to move forward on the lessons from the Taking Stock phase in order to:

  • continue improving our understanding of gender mainstreaming processes and experiences.
  • take current gender mainstreaming policies and practices in Dutch development cooperation to the next level.

The rationale for the Moving Forward phase is based on the following key principles which arose from the Taking Stock lessons:

  1. stimulate thematic gender expertise.
  2. Share positive experiences and practices of mainstreaming gender.
  3. Stimulate more strategic gender analysis both at the organization level and within the aid architecture.
  4. highlight the qualitative aspects of gender mainstreaming and the promotion of gender equality.

The overall principle of the Moving Forward phase is to contextualize and unpack gender mainstreaming. We are going to contextualize gender mainstreaming in different policy areas, different organizational contexts, and in the neo-liberal context in which international development currently operates.

With respect to the process, we seek to:

Ø      strengthen dialogue and exchange with non-gender colleagues.

Ø      create more space for Southern partners and experts to contribute to the On Track with Gender process.
