Sub Processes Moving Forward

The Moving Forward phase takes the form of four sub-processes which run over the course of 2010. The four sub-processes cover different aspects of the agenda to take gender mainstreaming to the next level, and are organized into two clusters.

Cluster A: Thematic policy areas

The sub-processes in this cluster scrutinize gender mainstreaming in two selected policy areas. One is concerned with economic programmes, and focuses on gender in relation to microfinance and value chains. The other looks at violence against women. Both collect practices and experiences on addressing gender in those fields. The case studies will serve as a basis for exchange and reflection between gender and non-gender experts.

The nature of the gender mainstreaming process for these two areas differs substantially, as the economic programmes are a ‘mainstream policy area’ in which gender is being introduced, whereas the violence against women programmes concern an agenda of women and feminist organizations which seek to claim space in mainstream practices.

Cluster B: Institutional practices

The two sub-processes in this cluster examine institutional aspects of gender mainstreaming. One considers gender mainstreaming within the aid architecture and the other reflects on how individual organizations are (re)shaping their gender mainstreaming policies in the preparations for their new business plan. Scrutinizing the institutional and organizational aspects of gender mainstreaming practices will enable gaps and opportunities to be identified for future strategies.
